Investment Bank of Kozhikode (IBoK)

FY, the finance interest group at IIMK, runs the Investment Bank of Kozhikode (IBoK). IBoK is an initiative targeted at the Finance enthusiasts of IIM K. It has over 100 people working in associate roles and 40 people in Analyst roles. Students track a whole range of sectors and churn out research on sectors and companies. Currently, IBoK is working on 22 sectors including FMCG, Retail, Banking & Financial Services, Cement, etc. Insights from these sector reports are shared during the weekly FY sessions. This has built a vibrant culture of financial research among students at IIMK.

IBoK was incepted by Firdaus Mantri and Gaurav Sharma, FY Coordinators from PGP-09. IBoK is into its second year of operation and it has grown even bigger this year. Some of the alumni have also associated themselves with this initiative by agreeing to evaluate the research reports. IBoK has also attracted a lot of attention from industry and media and it has found a space in many national newspapers.

. Several companies have also shown their interest towards IBoK.

IBoK is carried forward in several stages and there is specific deliverable for each stage. Firstly, the teams have to provide a brief review of the basic understanding of the sector. It is followed by identification of parameters for evaluating companies within the sector and the rationale behind it. Then companies are analyzed based on the framework developed. This helps to evaluate the companies individually as well as on a comparative scale and their stock prices. Then the teams provide suggested price valuation and buy or sell recommendations. Also, FY coordinators are planning to take it forward where teams will track the sector on a regular basis by maintaining a dummy portfolio with 30% share in the identified sector.
