How often have we heard, A good salesman can sell a refrigerator to an Eskimo or that Historical Analysis is the only sure form of analysis? What are these other than oft repeated lines, urban legends or simply put Myths?

Since time immemorial, humans have had the tendency to placidly accept what has been going on in the world before them. The Earth was deemed to be flat, planetary motions were centered on earth; women were termed witches and what not. Only with the advent of science did these beliefs and myths got dispelled and people started believing in hard facts and the truth.

The field of management has been, however, devoid of any such revelations. Major incentives to retain employees still focus around the compensation packages, people still consider on-premise contact centers costing less than the on-demand ones and that if the average return of an investment over a few years is positive, the overall investment is deemed profitable. As mentioned earlier, these are nothing but myths perpetrating in our society over countless years. It is because of one of these myths that the world market is seeing such a downturn in economy.

When do we as managers put a serious effort to remove these myths clogging our minds and preventing creativity from taking control? Where do we get a chance to try out different things and see what is it really which drive the different markets around?
